Cracks, 2001
The artist moves her head down towards a white sheet of paper spread on a table. She covers her face with black ink with both of her hands. The gesture is familiar and resembles our everyday morning routine of washing face with water. Her face brushes against the surface of paper, as she tries to speak, leaving dark imprint behind. The sound is composed of words spoken by the artist during the action, both in English and in Polish.
I am silence, scattering and recollection, remembering and return. I force my entire body into the narrow gaps, the cracks, which we call differences. I observe silence through repetition. It happens when the absurdities, slight alterations, collide together. The split becomes deeper and deeper, bio-graphical, bio-logical, a countour in process, a shifting perimeter, permeable.
